Opening the Outdoor Season at the Andalusian Team Championships

This weekend marked the official start of my outdoor season, and what better way to kick it off than with a full day of competition at the Andalusian Team Championships in Jaén. Representing my club, Atletismo del Sur Coop La Palma, we faced the challenge with energy, focus, and strong team spirit — and it paid off. We proudly finished third overall among the top clubs in Andalusia, confirming the same position we earned back in December at the Indoor Team Championships.

This type of competition has a unique format: each club enters one athlete per event, and points are awarded in descending order based on placement.

For me, the day started early with the 100m sprint, which I ran out of competition — a great opportunity to test my speed and get a feel for the track. But the true highlight came at the end of the day, when I returned to the track to run the third leg of the 4x400m relay, the final — and perhaps most emotional — event of the meet.

Our relay team gave it everything we had, pushing through fatigue and riding the momentum we had built throughout the day. We crossed the finish line in second place, setting a new club record with a time of 3:48.77 — an incredible way to close out a long but rewarding day.

Beyond individual performances, the real strength of the day was the team atmosphere: cheering each other on, celebrating every point earned, and sharing the collective effort that led us to the podium.

Competitions like this always remind me why I love this sport — athletics isn’t just an individual pursuit, as it’s often thought to be. It’s also about unity, support, and the power of a team working towards a common goal.
